Importance of St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland
St. Patrick’s day is celebrated with great zeal in Ireland on March 17 to honor Ireland’s Patron St. Patrick. It is a religious and cultural festival of Ireland.

On 17th march, there is a national holiday in Ireland and people celebrate this day with great respect as it reminds the saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. On St. Patrick’s day the people of Ireland wear green hats, clothes, and jackets. The saint used a plant with three leaves to clear the Holy Trinity to the Irish people that’s the reason why you see green color everywhere on this particular day. This festival attracts a large number of visitors from all over the world.

History:

It is the belief of the Irish people that saint Patrick a pious man was born to a rich family of Roman Britain. As he belongs to a wealthy family so he never faced any difficulty in getting whatever he want to get. But then everything changed for him when he was kidnapped at the age of 16.

He was shifted to Gaelic Ireland as a slave. There he had to work hard and it was the worst experience of his life as he never thought of experiencing such difficulties. There he worked as a shepherd and one day during working he saw God.

He got the chance to escape from the slavery and then he became a priest. When he came back to Ireland he started preaching Christianity to the people of Ireland. He established many schools, monasteries, and churches. On 17th March, this great man died. By he is still alive in the hearts of people.

Celebrations:

This day is the most important day from the religious point of view for the Irish people. Green is used in decoration and even all the people no matter whether they are Irish or not wear green shirts, caps, and other accessories with green color and participate in the festival.

There are no restrictions on using alcohol and eating on this day. People celebrate the day with delicious traditional Irish dishes. People use different symbols while celebrating St. Patrick’s day which includes shamrock, Irish beer, leprechaun and different other things with green color.

Local parades are the soul of this event. People take part in the local parades and enjoy. Some people just attend the parades while others play their role. These parades are very amazing. People from different professions march in their unique way.

Dancing groups, gymnasts, and musicians all move in an amazing way and a large number of the people gather to enjoy. As it is a holiday and the biggest festival of Ireland so most of the people take part in marches and parades.

Bars and pubs also become the center of the celebration. People move to the bars and pubs with their friends and enjoy the festival.

In short, on St. Patrick’s day you are allowed to enjoy madly in the way you want. Like every year, this day will be celebrated with great preparations in 2016.
